Hi everybody,

we have vmware workstation 4.5.2 build 8848 on a linux host, running
suse 9.1. There is a 2.8 GHz cpu and 1 gigabyte ram.

Windows 2000 Server is running inside a vm and is assigned 768 MB of
ram.On this windows server we have terminal server servicing a couple
of customers that connect from remote.

The problem is now the first customer that connects. It takes the
application almost 15 minutes to initialise and present a login screen.
This process used to take only a second or so. After the first login
everything performs to our satisfaction. Only a small fraction of the
memory is used and cpu-usage is low. I am looking for sugestions on
what to do to improve the login time for the first user in the morning.

best regards
Hans

Do you have any remote profiles setup...

You could try running FileMon (http:\www.sysinternals.com) by logging in directly to see what files are being accessed.

Hope this helps

Thanks Chris,

I don't know how the windows server is used exactly. We provide the
vmware to the customer and he is in charge of the windows server
installed. I will try FileMon after vacation. The strange thing is,
when restarting vmware and the guest os, there is no speed problem, but
after 2 or 3 days it get's very slow in the morning.

Thanks
Hans
