Are these newsgroups supported? Active?

There seems to be very little activity on them anyway. My three recent
posts -

<<
Newsgroups: vmware.guest.windows2000
Sent: Monday, May 16, 2005 12:33 AM
Subject: How to get Win 98 guest to talk to W2K host
<<
Newsgroups: vmware.for-windowsnt.general
Sent: Sunday, May 01, 2005 10:57 PM
Subject: Snapshots, full clones, and linked clones?
<<
Newsgroups: vmware.for-windowsnt.general
Sent: Sunday, May 01, 2005 11:31 PM
Subject: Teams and C/S, n-tier software development
went unanswered, thus far.

Is there an official support channel somewhere I can use?

Thanks!

Hi Lauchlan

These groups really have been replaced by the discussion forums on the
VMware web site http://www.vmware.com/community/index.jspa. The news groups
were never a formal support channel, and neither are the VMware discussion
forums, but many VMware employees and the old regulars from here answer many
questions over there. If you need to file a support requests you should do
so via http://www.vmware.com/support/.

I still look over here occasionally to see if there is anything interesting.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Could you not put in a gateway to link the newsgroups and webpages ? I
find reading theaded news via a newreader much easier than trying to
navigate threads via a web browser. (call me an old fart if you want)

Oh, I agree. (Must be an old fart as well!) I much prefer newsreaders with
decent threading. The VMware discussion forums do have a threaded view which
helps, but there is no means of expanding and collapsing the threads.

Fourthed!

Conversely, why not just get rid of these groups if they're no longer used?

At the least, it's confusing . . .

Don't say that!

Veritas ditched thier usenet groups and went to a web forum, that I
won't visit. Something about all the web forums.....news groups do
thread things out better, can be searched better, and so on.

I hope these groups don't come to the same demise.

Those New Farts need to be taught some USENET sense! ;) Long live USENET!

I much prefer newsgroups, but to have two seperate forums where the
newsgroup one are not supported and not active is just confusing and
misleading, IMO.

No, please not.
It's an invaluable source of information.
All the messages are preserved and most questions are posted and answered
sometime before.
So when I need something to know, I search through the messages in these
newsgroups.
Anyway, I prefer these text-based newsgroups over Web-based groups.
