Discussion:
Nokia PC Suite: USB recognition?

I have both ActivSync and Nokia PC Suite installed in the Win2K guest,
running VMWare 4.0 on RedHat Enterprise Linux. USB works fine with
ActivSync for synchronization.

Linux, VMWare, and PC Suite are all doing their thing apparently
correctly. I've installed all the drivers for phone, data cable, and
application. But the phone is still not being recognized.

When I try to sync the Nokia first it complains that someone else owns
the USB port. Going into ActivSync connection settings and disabling
serial and USB solves that.

I've installed all the drivers for the phone and its data cable. When I
check the VMWare VM USB settings it shows COM1 connected to the data
cable. If I pull the data cable the line for the data cable disappears
from the list. So VMWare thinks all is copacetic.

I point the PC Suite in succession to COM1 (where VMWare says it is) and
COM2. It continues to say there is no connection. When I turn off the
Serial connection in PC Suite there is some disk activity and an
hourglass, so the software is working.

But Nokia PC Suite still can't find the cable.

Any prior experience or suggestions here?

TIA, Andy

Andy,

I am having a similar problem, so if you get your issue resolved,
please let me know.

I am running RH9.0 with VMWare 4.5.2. My Nokia DKU-5 cable is
recognized by Win2K Pro..I can successfully see it in my HW Device
Manager and using PCSuite..My port is pointing to COM4. However, the
software does not recognize the Nokia 6200 phone.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you
